Sydney - (Saba):
Australian airline Qantas announced on Wednesday that it has launched an investigation following a “major” cyberattack during which hackers breached a system containing sensitive data of six million of the company’s customers.
“We are continuing to investigate the scope of the stolen data, but we expect it to be significant,” the company said.
It added that the compromised system contains records of six million customers, but does not include payment card details or passport numbers.
According to the same source, the company warned that hackers managed to access customers' email addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth.
It stressed that the attack had "no impact on Qantas operations or safety."
Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said, “We sincerely apologize to our customers and understand the concern this incident will cause.”
Hudson added that the company is “working closely” with cybersecurity experts in the Australian government to address the matter.
