Istanbul - Saba:
The International Institution for Solidarity with Palestinian Prisoners (Tadamon), in cooperation with the Arab Council for Strategic Litigation, organized a workshop titled "The Torture of Palestinian Prisoners in Israeli Enemy Prisons: Institutionalized Torture and the Absence of International Accountability."
The event was held at the Arab Council’s headquarters in Istanbul in observance of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.
The workshop was chaired by former Tunisian President and head of the Arab Council for Human Rights, Moncef Marzouki, and attended by a group of human rights activists, legal experts, and international specialists, according to the Palestinian Safa News Agency on Tuesday.
In a video call from Paris, Marzouki emphasized the importance of human rights in the Arab world and the necessity for peoples to struggle for their freedom.
Marzouki stated: "The issue of Palestinian prisoners cannot be separated from the broader struggle for freedom and dignity in the Arab world. Human rights are indivisible, and it is our duty to stand against all forms of oppression and torture, whether in Israeli prisons or anywhere else."
He stressed that freedom and democracy are the true guarantees of security and stability, calling for greater Arab and international solidarity to confront the policies of the Israeli enemy, which have turned prisons into "torture laboratories" without any accountability.
For his part, Ayman Nour, Chairman of Al-Sharq TV, highlighted the importance of commemorating the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, recalling his personal suffering during his imprisonment and the injustice and torture he endured.
Nour pointed out that the cruelty reached its peak when the torturers who participated in his abuse were rewarded, emphasizing that the suffering of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails represents an open Arab wound that cannot be ignored.
He paid tribute to detained Palestinian MP Marwan Barghouti, Popular Front leader Ahmad Saadat, and freed prisoner Khalida Jarrar, who fought to reclaim their freedom from the shackles of prison, along with thousands of other detainees in Israeli prisons. He also saluted prisoners of conscience in Tunisia, Egypt, and every country that criminalizes free speech, considers opinion a threat, and treats freedom as an enemy.
Nour stressed the necessity of holding perpetrators accountable and ensuring they do not escape punishment, calling for cross-border justice that is not swayed by geographic or political considerations.
