Irbil - Saba:
Kurdish TV channel Rudaw cited sources as saying that the first group of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) fighters, comprising between 20 and 30 people, will surrender their weapons in the Iraqi province of Sulaymaniyah between July 3 and 10.
The report, on Monday, indicated that a new letter from PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan will be released to party members in the coming days, after which the disarmament process will begin.
On March 1, the PKK declared a ceasefire with Turkey in response to a call from its leader, Öcalan, who is currently serving a life sentence, to dissolve and disarm the party.
Last April, Turkish media reported that Turkish authorities threatened to launch a military operation against the PKK this summer if it refused to lay down its arms.
Turkey's conflict with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) began in 1984 and resumed in 2015.
