French striker Olivier Giroud has announced his departure from the American soccer team Los Angeles FC, after a disappointing year.

In a statement on Friday evening, Giroud said: "I would like to thank the Los Angeles FC fans, my fellow players, and the coaching staff for their support and for making my time here so enjoyable."

The 38-year-old added: "I am happy to have played a part in the success of Los Angeles FC." From winning the Cup last season to participating in the Club World Cup, it was a wonderful experience in Los Angeles for me and my family."

Giroud will play his final match with Los Angeles FC on Sunday night against Vancouver.

After scoring five goals in 37 appearances for Los Angeles FC, Giroud will become a free agent after his departure.

Giroud is widely expected to join Lille, who finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season, on a free transfer.

Giroud joined Los Angeles FC in June 2024, after a long career in Europe during which he excelled, particularly with Arsenal, Chelsea, and AC Milan.
