Tehran – SABA:
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the missile strike carried out by Iranian armed forces against the U.S. Al-Udeid base was a legitimate act of self-defense in response to American military aggression, and should not be interpreted as an attack on the Qatari government.
According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency on Tuesday, Araghchi exchanged views in a phone call last night with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani regarding recent regional developments following Israeli and American attacks on Iran.
During the call, Araghchi emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s missile operation against the U.S. base in Al-Udeid on Monday evening was conducted within the framework of the legitimate right to self-defense, in response to Sunday’s military aggression by the United States against Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty. He stressed that the action should not be considered an attack against the friendly and brotherly state of Qatar.
He also pointed to the hostile actions of the Zionist entity and the United States toward Iran, asserting that the Islamic Republic, in consultation with regional countries, would not allow such acts to undermine its friendly relations with other nations in the region.
Araghchi praised the positions of senior Qatari officials in condemning the aggression by the Zionist entity and the U.S., and acknowledged Qatar’s constructive efforts to help prevent further regional instability.
For his part, the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to playing a constructive role in maintaining regional security and stability, according to Tasnim News.
