Tehran - Saba:
Iran's representative to the UN Security Council, Saeed Iravani, affirmed that his country reserves its legitimate right to defend itself against blatant aggression, in accordance with the principles of international law and Article 51 of the UN Charter.
During an emergency session of the Security Council held on Monday, Sana'a time, to discuss the US military aggression against Iran, Iravani said, "Today, a new stain of shame has been added to the political history of the United States. Donald Trump was personally and directly forced to implement the most despicable chapters of this malicious scenario," according to Iran's Tasnim News Agency.
He pointed out that Iran, as an independent and peace-loving country, has repeatedly warned the US administration of the consequences of its aggressive policies, noting that this unjustified attack is a continuation of a series of attacks launched by the Zionist entity against Iran and its people.
He added, "We condemn in the strongest terms this blatant and pre-planned aggression, which represents a flagrant violation of international law and a clear infringement on Iran's sovereignty."
He emphasized that the United States had once again resorted to the illegal use of force, under false pretexts and baseless farcical scenarios, describing this as a "blatant tragic contradiction."
He stated that all US accusations against Iran are "false, without any legal basis, and purely politically motivated," recalling the assassination of Martyr Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, "which was carried out on the direct orders of the former US President."
He continued: "The blatant double standards adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Security Council in their dealings with Iran compared to "Israel" constitute a moral, legal, and political disgrace."
The Iranian representative concluded his speech by calling on the Security Council to take urgent action under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, saying: "The Council must assume its legal responsibility, put an end to these violations, and restore some measure of justice to the dysfunctional international order."
