Dhamar – Saba:
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration, Rural Development, and Mohammed Al-Madani, along with Dhamar Governor Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, inspected on Sunday the production levels at the General Company for Potato Seed Production.

During the visit, Al-Madani praised the company’s efforts in achieving self-sufficiency in potato seeds, stressing the importance of market management and developing plans to regulate production. He emphasized the need to encourage investment projects that utilize potato crops in food processing industries, commending the role of research teams in the company’s success in producing potato seedlings through tissue culture techniques.

Governor Al-Bukhaiti highlighted the necessity of doubling efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in various food crops.

Meanwhile, Tariq Al-Qahoum, the company’s deputy executive director, explained that current production includes potato seeds of multiple generations, attributing these successes to research efforts and the continuous support of revolutionary and political leadership.

Al-Madani and Al-Bukhaiti also reviewed work progress at the Public Institution for Improved Seed Propagation, appreciating its role in introducing new high-yield, pest-resistant crop varieties.

Engineer Abdullah Al-Wadaei, the institution’s director, briefed them on its activities and preparations for a new agricultural season, including the cultivation of various wheat strains in the province. He noted increased seed productivity, contracts with 100 farmers and agricultural associations, and the provision of seed support.

Additionally, the officials visited a model farm, observing organic fertilizer and compost production from animal and plant waste. Al-Madani commended local authorities for promoting organic fertilizer production, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting modern agricultural technologies.

Governor Al-Bukhaiti highlighted local efforts in recycling waste to produce organic fertilizers and developing eco-friendly agricultural alternatives.

The delegation also inspected fruit and ornamental seedling production at the Harran Agricultural Nursery in Dhamar. Officials reported an annual production capacity of 300,000 fruit seedlings, implemented in coordination with agricultural sectors and funding units.

Al-Madani urged expanding seedling distribution and establishing nurseries across districts and villages, while enhancing agricultural extension services. Governor Al-Bukhaiti noted the local administration’s adoption of a project to plant 400,000 sidr and camphor trees across the governorate.

Later, Al-Madani inspected the ongoing construction of the "Sifal Al-Sar" barrier in Afk, Jahran District, praising the implementing unit’s efforts and reaffirming government support for community initiatives.

Engineer Fares Al-Shamahi, deputy director of the Central Emergency Development Interventions Unit at the Ministry of Local Administration, and Mohammed Nashwan, the unit’s representative in Dhamar and Al-Bayda, explained that the 86,389,000-rial project is directly funded by the unit.

The barrier, with a storage capacity of 81,200 cubic meters and a height of 17.1 meters, will serve agricultural lands and local residents, with completion currently at 15%.

Concluding the visit, an expanded meeting chaired by Al-Madani and attended by Governor Al-Bukhaiti, local , executive leaders, and agricultural association officials discussed enhancing development efforts and strengthening cooperative roles.

Al-Madani stressed the importance of coordination between executive offices and districts, activating community and cooperative work, monitoring service and development projects, protecting local crafts and industries, and promoting integration to advance the agricultural sector and market local products.
