Taiz - Saba:
The Anti-Smuggling Unit in Taiz province, in cooperation with Al-Rahda Customs Center, successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a shipment of foreign garlic concealed in a "Shas" pickup truck.
Muhammad Al-Jabri, Director of Al-Rahda Customs Center, told the Yemeni News Agency (SABA) that the seized garlic amounted to 230 bags, with each bag weighing approximately 10 kilograms.
He emphasized that smuggling operations pose a serious threat to the national economy and harm local producers, warning that the continued smuggling of agricultural products jeopardizes national food security.
Meanwhile, Fahd Al-Muadhin, Deputy Director of the Center for Customs Enforcement, stated that customs authorities, in coordination with the Anti-Smuggling Unit, are making continuous efforts to monitor and intercept smuggled goods. He called for enhanced cooperation with relevant authorities and stricter surveillance of roads and entry points.
It is worth noting that the Government of Change and Development, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, has banned the import of foreign garlic after Yemen achieved self-sufficiency in local garlic production.
