Baghdad - Saba:
On Sunday, the Iraqi government expressed its concern and condemnation of the targeting of nuclear facilities inside the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Iraqi government expressed its deep concern and condemnation of the targeting of nuclear facilities inside the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran," stressing that "this military escalation poses a serious threat to security and peace in the Middle East and exposes regional stability to grave risks."
He added, "Iraq affirms its principled rejection of the use of force in international relations and calls for respect for the sovereignty of states and the non-targeting of Its vital facilities, especially those under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency and used for peaceful purposes."
He stressed that "military solutions cannot be a substitute for dialogue and diplomacy, and that the continuation of these attacks would lead to a dangerous escalation with consequences that would extend beyond the borders of any single state and affect the stability of the region and the world."
"Wars leave nothing but destruction in their wake, and the responsibility of major powers and international bodies must be focused on sparing the world further crises, not igniting them."
"Iraq, based on its responsibility to regional and international peace and stability, calls for immediate calm, the opening of urgent diplomatic channels to contain the situation, and efforts to defuse the crisis, ensuring mutual security and respecting international law and the UN Charter," he added.
