A commemorative event was held on Wednesday in Taiz province to mark the anniversary of the passing of the eminent scholar Sayyid Badr al-Din Amir al-Din al-Houthi.
The event was attended by the acting governor of Taiz, Ahmed Al-Masawi, and several members of the Shura Council. Saleh Al-Khawlani, a member of the Yemeni Scholars Association, emphasized the importance of honoring the legacy of a prominent figure of jihad who led a life dedicated to knowledge and service in the fields of religion and Islamic jurisprudence.
"Today, in Taiz, we commemorate a divine scholar, an ally of the Quran, and a companion of piety—Sayyid Badr al-Din al-Houthi al-Hasani, who was a model of knowledge, asceticism, and devotion," Al-Khawlani stated. He noted that the late scholar was a jurist and mufti who mentored numerous scholars, many of whom played active roles in spreading the values and principles of the noble Islamic religion.
Al-Khawlani stressed the nation's need today for the role of devout scholars who fear no blame in the path of God, especially amid the relentless aggression of enemies from all sides. This necessitates unity of efforts, ranks, and stances in confronting the forces of global hegemony and arrogance—America and Israel.
"The late scholar embodied a spirit of jihad, following the Book of God and the Sunnah of His noble Messenger (peace be upon him and his family). He was distinguished by speaking the truth and confronting corruption, emulating the exemplary model of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family)," he added.
Al-Khawlani also addressed the injustice faced by the people of Gaza, who are enduring genocidal crimes at the hands of the Zionist, American, and European enemies. He questioned, "Where are the scholars in the face of what is happening in Gaza, while corrupt scholars and rulers remain silent as graves, uttering not a word of truth?"
He further highlighted the Zionist aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, backed by American and European support, praising Iran’s honorable stance in supporting the Palestinian cause and resistance, while most Arab and Islamic regimes have abandoned it.
The event was also attended by the deputy ministers of Local Administration and Rural Development, Jamal Al-Alawi and Mansour Al-Lakumi, as well as deputy governors of Taiz and military and security leaders.
In a speech delivered by Aref Al-Sururi on behalf of the scholars, it was emphasized that Sayyid Badr al-Din al-Houthi was a leading figure of Yemen, a symbol of the nation, and an exceptional scholar who dedicated his life to knowledge and jihad in the path of God.
In his speech, Ayman Al-Sulayhi highlighted aspects of the life of the late scholar, his asceticism, piety, and unwavering stance in speaking truth to oppressors and arrogant powers. He noted that the late scholar mentored many scholars , mujahideen and played a significant role in countering the extremist Wahhabi ideology with strong evidence and arguments. Al-Sulayhi also mentioned that the late scholar authored numerous works, including Quranic exegesis.
Al-Sulayhi called for reviving the methodology of scholar Badr al-Din al-Houthi and spreading his teachings related to jihad, as well as his constant emphasis on supporting religious schools , reviving Quranic study circles and beneficial knowledge.
