UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Palestine Francesca Albanese indicated on Monday that five Israeli speedboats reached the ship and surrounded it.
Albanese explained in an interview with Al Jazeera that the ship's crew informed the occupation soldiers that they were carrying only humanitarian aid, stressing that the ship did not pose a threat to the security of Israel, which has no authority to stop it in international waters.
The head of the International Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza appealed to the free world, Britain, and France to prevent the attack on the Madeleine.
The leader of the Movement de France Insoumise party emphasized that intercepting the Madeleine outside Israeli territorial waters is a flagrant violation of international law and that the arrest of 12 activists is illegal.
He called on the European Union, the United Nations, and the international community to condemn the unlawful arrest of the activists on board the Madeleine.
A week ago, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition's Madeleine sailboat set sail from the Italian port of Catania to break the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip.
The ship was carrying 12 people, including Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, Irish actor Liam Cunningham, and parliamentarian Rima Hassan.
Before the 18-meter-long sailboat set sail, many people flocked to the port to support it, waving Palestinian flags.
