Tehran - Saba:
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized that any text containing extreme and exaggerated demands that ignore the legitimate rights and interests of the Iranian people will certainly not receive a positive response from Iran, adding that Iran's red lines will be the basis for responding to the US proposal.
Regarding the IAEA report, Baghaei explained in his press conference this week, according to the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), that the IAEA report was prepared under pressure from some Western countries. He emphasized that the methods pursued by the West and the IAEA will certainly not succeed, saying, "It is wrong to adopt the same approach that has not worked before."
The spokesman believed that some Western countries have long exploited international organizations and multilateral mechanisms, including the IAEA, to achieve their political goals. This has become a negative and undesirable tradition over the past two decades, and is, of course, not limited to the IAEA alone.
Baghaei added, "The report issued by the IAEA contains largely repetitive content, and some technical issues have been exaggerated. He emphasized that there is no doubt that this report was prepared under pressure from certain countries."
He continued, "Iran is not satisfied with Western countries undermining the credibility and standing of an international organization in this manner. He considered it inappropriate for the IAEA, as the body that oversees the nuclear activities of states, to be subjected to such pressure."
He pointed out that Iran is aware that the IAEA as a whole and its Director General have been subjected to repeated pressure to prepare this report with specific content. However, this does not mean that the agency is permitted to publish completely biased and politically motivated reports against a member state under the influence of such pressure. It is only natural, as past experience has shown, that Iran closely monitors the actions of Western parties in the nuclear field and acts accordingly.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman continued, recalling that Iran has always recommended avoiding the misuse of these institutions as a tool to influence bilateral cooperation between Iran and the IAEA. He noted that in November 2024, the same three European countries ignored the achievements of the IAEA Director General's visit to Tehran and proposed and adopted a resolution, but this resolution failed to achieve its objectives, and Iran subsequently responded in kind.
In this context, Baghaei explained: "As a responsible member of the NPT and also a member of the IAEA, we have always coordinated our peaceful activities with the IAEA. This agency has fully supervised our activities."
He explained that the exaggeration in canceling the appointment of a small number of individuals, which was based on comprehensive safeguards regulations and articles, and the failure to mention the continued activity and presence of 125 inspectors, on the other hand, is a biased and completely subjective approach.
He stated that Iran will adjust its steps in accordance with the upcoming actions of the IAEA participating states, but it certainly does not want its cooperation with the agency to be affected by such actions. However, in some cases, it will be forced to make the appropriate decision in response to provocative actions by the other side.
It is noteworthy that the Iranian side has repeatedly declared its willingness to take substantive steps regarding verification of the details and extent of enrichment in order to provide clarity regarding its nuclear program.
To date, five rounds of indirect Iranian-US negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program, mediated by the Sultanate of Oman, have taken place. The first round began in Muscat on April 12, and the last round took place on Friday, May 25, 2025, in Rome.
