Geneva - Saba:
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has called for the protection of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, including the wounded and sick, as Israeli military operations escalate.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the ICRC emphasized that the massive scale of destruction will not bring the region closer to peace but will only deepen the suffering of the population.
The committee stressed that international humanitarian law obliges all parties to make every effort to spare civilians from the effects of military operations, describing this as both a moral and legal duty.
It also urged the unimpeded and rapid flow of humanitarian aid, warning that blocking assistance risks collapsing the humanitarian response in the sector.
The ICRC called on the international community to take immediate action to end the suffering of civilians in Gaza and ensure respect for international humanitarian law.
