Bolivian MP Jerges Mercado believes that the direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, proposed by President Vladimir Putin, will remove the conflict from the geopolitical game being played by Europe and Washington.
A deputy from the ruling Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) party said, according to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, "Direct dialogue between Russia and Ukraine will remove them (Europe and Washington) from the global geopolitical game. Therefore, I hope that the United States and NATO will not thwart the initiative for direct talks, because both Europe and the United States are trying to benefit from this war."
Mercado added, "The United States and NATO started the conflict when they tried to bring NATO member states closer to Russia, violating its safe zone. They pushed these two countries into a conflict, and unfortunately, Russia and Ukraine bear the brunt of it."
Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Kyiv to resume direct negotiations to end the crisis in Ukraine without preconditions. He proposed holding them next Thursday (May 15) in Istanbul, Turkey.
