Sana'a - Sana'a:

A meeting in the capital Sana'a Sana'a on Tuesday, chaired by the Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water, Dr. Ali Saif, discussed the tasks assigned to the Ministry and its affiliated agencies to ensure the continuity of water and wastewater services within the program of the Government of Change and Reconstruction.

The meeting, which included Deputy Minister of Electricity and Water, Adel Bader, and directors of local water and wastewater institutions in the capital and province s, reviewed ways to improve performance, simplify procedures for citizens, in accordance with laws and regulations, and resolve water and wastewater problems through the implementation of related projects and activities.

The meeting evaluated the projects completed and implemented within the strategic plan for the water sector for the year 1446 AH, as well as the safe withdrawal plan. It also reviewed models from the general plan of the Ministry of Electricity, Energy, and Water for the year 1447 AH, and followed up on the implementation of the plan to contribute to increasing the water and wastewater coverage rate for each institution in the capital and provinces.

The meeting reviewed a report on the performance evaluation indicators of local water and sanitation institutions for the year 1446 AH, according to the interim and emergency plans, the actual achievement rate of all indicators at the level of each institution, and the coverage rate of water services in urban areas at the level of local institutions and their branches.

The attendees addressed the obstacles facing local water and sanitation institutions in implementing their plans and projects, most notably the gap in some institutions' ability to determine the actual coverage rate of beneficiaries of water and sanitation services and the failure of some institutions to submit data on damages resulting from the aggression.

At the meeting, the Minister of Electricity, Energy and Water emphasized the importance of periodically evaluating the performance of local water and sanitation institutions. This contributes to improving the level of their services and improving the quality of work. This ensures revenue collection, reduces waste, and reduces the percentage of zero meters, enabling them to meet operating and maintenance expenses and maintain their services.

He highlighted the need to move towards automation to simplify procedures, facilitate data collection, and activate and send monthly and quarterly progress reports on projects, activities, procedures, and performance indicators. He emphasized the need to coordinate with the General Electricity Corporation to supply electricity to operate water wells and power stations.

Minister Saif highlighted the Ministry of Electricity, Energy, and Water's commitment to utilizing alternative energy by expanding this field, including the use of lithium battery technology and generating electricity in water projects using hydropower, which contributes to reducing energy costs using diesel and fuel oil.

He praised the efforts of the leaders and staff of the local water and sanitation institutions in the capital and governorates, and their commitment to continuing to provide services to citizens despite the circumstances and repercussions of the ongoing US, Zionist, and British aggression against Yemen.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Electricity and Water Bader considered the meeting an opportunity to discuss opinions and proposals aimed at improving the performance of local water and sanitation institutions and overcoming current difficulties in light of the ongoing US and Zionist aggression against the country.

He pointed out that evaluating the performance indicators of water and sanitation institutions in the Secretariat and governorates contributes to identifying the challenges facing the implementation of water and sanitation projects and services, so that these can be addressed promptly.

Bader noted the successes of the water and sanitation institutions' performance indicators, highlighting the plans, programs, and projects implemented during the current year. He emphasized the importance of developing plans for the year 1447 AH and working to meet the growing demand for drinking water.

During the meeting, which was attended by Wassama al-Ariqi, Head of the Planning Unit at the Ministry of Electricity and Water, Zaid al-Kuhlani, Director of Water Sector Reform at the Ministry, and Zaki al-Maamari, Director of Information Systems. Several observations, opinions, and suggestions were raised by the directors of water institutions in the Capital Sana'a and provinces.
