Dublin - Saba:
Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Simon Harris said that "no humanitarian or commercial aid has entered Gaza for more than eight weeks due to the Israeli blockade."
In a statement on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip on Friday, Harris added that children are suffering from hunger, and hospitals are running out of essential painkillers.
He noted that "the World Food Program has declared its food stocks depleted, and while life-saving aid is available and urgently needed, trucks cannot cross the border into Gaza."
Harris stressed that the continuation of this suffering is unacceptable, and it is the longest blockade on aid entering Gaza since the beginning of the war.
He considered that "the current situation is unacceptable, and the obstruction of life-saving aid is a violation of Israel's international obligations."
Harris called on the Israeli occupation to immediately lift the blockade and allow unhindered humanitarian access, considering that "the resumption of hostilities was disastrous."
