Washington - Saba:
Vermont District Court Judge Geoffrey Crawford issued a ruling on Wednesday to release Palestinian citizen Mohsen Mahdawi, who was arrested during a U.S. citizenship interview.
Mahdawi, a legal resident of the United States for ten years, previously led protests against the war in Gaza while studying at Columbia University.
Mahdawi was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on April 14 and detained at Northwest State Prison in St. Albans.
At a subsequent hearing, Judge Crawford issued an order prohibiting Mahdawi from being transferred outside Vermont or the United States.
Mahdawi's lawyers asserted that his arrest stemmed from his statements supporting Palestinian human rights, which he made during his participation in the protests.
