A 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit the waters off New Zealand's southern coast on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake occurred at 1:16 PM UTC, with its epicenter located at a depth of 10 kilometers, approximately 286 kilometers from the New Zealand town of Bluff.
No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been issued, and no tsunami warning was declared.
In a related seismic event, a stronger 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Australia's Macquarie Island, located about 1,200 kilometers south of New Zealand, at 2:53 PM UTC.
The second quake had a shallower depth of 4.5 kilometers, but no tsunami alert was issued for this event either.
Seismologists continue to monitor the situation, though no significant threats have been reported so far.
