The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip has said that the Israeli enemy has been blocking the entry of polio vaccines for 40 days, threatening 602,000 children with the risk of permanent paralysis and chronic disability.
The ministry added in a statement on Tuesday that the ban on the entry of vaccines hinders efforts to implement the fourth phase of strengthening polio prevention, according to Anadolu Agency.
In September 2024, the first polio vaccination campaign was launched in Gaza, following the announcement in August of the first confirmed case of polio in the Strip, involving a 10-month-old child.
The campaign concluded with the vaccination of more than 560,000 Palestinian children, according to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
In November 2024, the second phase concluded with the vaccination of 556,774 children under the age of 10 in the Gaza Strip. The third campaign launched last February and vaccinated approximately 600,000 Palestinian children under the age of ten.
According to the United Nations, children in Gaza require two doses of the vaccine, each administered orally.
