A recent study published on the Science Alert website revealed a hormonal treasure trove that could revolutionize the fight against skin conditions. Researchers identified a group of hormones capable of slowing age-related deterioration and repairing some of its effects.
The results show that the benefits of these hormones are not limited to cosmetic benefits, but may extend to enhancing the overall health of the skin, which is the body's first line of defense against external factors.
According to the study, the skin is not just an external covering; it is an active "deaf organ" that directly affects its appearance and functions.
Professor Markus Böhm, lead author of the study from the University of Münster in Germany, noted that some hormones, such as estrogen and retinoids, are already used in clinics, but the new discovery reveals other promising compounds, most notably melatonin, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
The study also highlighted other hormones, such as insulin-like growth factor (IGF) and α-MSH, which stimulate collagen production and reduce sunspots and gray hair.
The researchers assert that understanding the interactions between these hormones and the skin could lead to the development of revolutionary treatments that preserve skin's youthfulness and promote its health from within.
"We have a golden opportunity to transform these discoveries into practical solutions that slow the progression of aging," Böhm added, noting that future research will focus on transforming these hormones into safe and effective products.
If these efforts succeed, we may be on the cusp of a new era in cosmetics, where "freezing time" becomes a scientific reality, not just a dream.
