Buenos Aires - Saba:
The Argentine national team will host Brazil on Wednesday in the fourteenth round of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Argentina tops the Unified Group with 28 points, seven points ahead of third-place Brazil, while Ecuador is in second place.
A draw is enough for Argentina to officially secure qualification, following their 1-0 victory over Uruguay in the last round, in the absence of Argentine star Lionel Messi.
Argentina, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 champions, has achieved a series of victories, remaining unbeaten against their arch-rival Brazil, winning three of their last four matches against them, while drawing.
Brazil also seeks to continue its impressive form, having not lost in its last five matches (three wins and two draws), following its victory over Colombia thanks to a late goal from Vinicius Junior in the ninth minute of stoppage time in a 2-1 victory for Brazil.
The five-time world champions had a poor start to the qualifiers, suffering three consecutive defeats, but they regained some of their prestige in the final rounds, achieving two consecutive victories over Chile and Peru, before drawing with Venezuela and Uruguay in the previous window and defeating Colombia.
