Geneva - Saba:
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed its deep concern over the use of illegal force by the Zionist enemy in Jenin in the occupied West Bank.
The spokesperson for the Commission, Thameen Al-Khitan, said during a press conference in Geneva on Friday: "The Zionist operations in Jenin over the past few days raise serious concerns about the unnecessary or disproportionate use of force, including methods and means developed to wage war in violation of international human rights law and the standards and rules in force in law enforcement operations."
He pointed out that the matter includes multiple airstrikes and apparently indiscriminate shooting at unarmed residents trying to flee or seek safety.
He stressed the responsibility of the Zionist enemy in these events, stressing the need for all killings to be subject to a comprehensive and independent investigation, and for those responsible for the unlawful killings in Jenin to be held accountable.
He explained that the Zionist entity, through its continued failure over the years to hold accountable members of its security forces responsible for the unlawful killings, not only violates its obligations under international law, but also risks encouraging the recurrence of such killings.
He expressed the UN Commission's concern about the repeated comments by some Israeli officials about plans to further expand settlements, in a new violation of international law.
The Zionist enemy forces continue their aggression on the city and camp of Jenin, for the fourth consecutive day, resulting in the martyrdom of 12 Palestinians, the injury and arrest of dozens, and the infliction of significant destruction on the infrastructure.
