The Taiwanese Foreign Ministry condemned China's false claim that Taiwan is Chinese, stressing that Taiwan is an independent and sovereign country.

The ministry said today that Taiwan and the People's Republic of China are separate entities, and this is a universally recognized fact and the internationally recognized status quo, noting that Taiwan looks forward to strengthening cooperation with the new Trump administration, based on the solid and friendly foundation of Taiwan-US relations.
The response of the Taiwanese Foreign Ministry comes in the wake of comments made by Chinese President Xi Jinping on Taiwan's sovereignty during his phone call with US President-elect Donald Trump on Friday.
