Brussels-Saba:
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, announced that "the Union is planning to deploy a monitoring mission at the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip."
Kallas's statements came via a post on her official account on the "X" platform, on Friday, where she explained that she met with the Palestinian Prime Minister, Muhammad Mustafa, in the Belgian capital, Brussels.
She pointed out that "the meeting took place just hours after the announcement of reaching a ceasefire agreement."
She said: "This agreement could be a step towards lasting peace, but we all know that there are many difficult challenges ahead of us." She stressed that the European Union is ready to help with humanitarian aid and reconstruction.
She added: "We are also holding talks on deploying our monitoring mission in Rafah to ensure stability on the border."
