Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Jamal Ahmed Amer met on Tuesday with Director of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen in Sana'a Mohammed al-Ghannam and Economic Advisor to the Office of the UN Envoy Dirk Jan Omtzigt.
In the meeting, Minister Amer listened to a briefing by the Economic Advisor to the Office of the UN Envoy on the results of his meetings with a number of officials responsible for the economic file in Sana'a and the constructive discussions that took place, to move from the circle of hopes and talks to the circle of taking agreed-upon practical steps.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stressed that the correct start to address the economic file is to set agreed-upon determinants and standards for the work of the Joint Economic Committee, and to limit the points of disagreement and start from the points of convergence, so that the outcomes of the work of the Joint Economic Committee meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
He explained that Sana'a's position is clear and does not tolerate any ambiguity regarding its immediate readiness to sign the roadmap, as it is the gateway to starting the political settlement process in Yemen.
Minister Amer said, "Any talk about the roadmap being frozen at the present time comes within the framework of responding to American pressure on Sana'a to stop the support and assistance process for the Gaza Strip, and this matter is rejected in its entirety as there is no connection between the peace file and signing the roadmap and the escalation file in the Red Sea, and that any pressure in this direction will have adverse results."
In turn, al-Ghannam explained that the roadmap is the agreed-upon channel to move forward with the peace file in Yemen.
