SANA'A August 30. 2024 (Saba) - The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning has issued a weather advisory for thunderstorms of varying intensity expected across several regions in Yemen over the next 24 hours.
The affected areas include Sa'ada, Hajjah, Amran, Sana'a, Mahweet, Dhamar, Raymah, Ibb, Dhale', Taiz, Lahj, the highlands and plains of Tihama, and the coastal regions of Hajjah, Al-Hodeidah, and Taiz.
In addition, scattered thunderstorms are anticipated in western Marib, Al Jawf, and parts of Bayda, Abyan, Shabwa, Hadramout, and Mahrah.
Recent rainfall measurements include:
- Ibb: 24.6 mm
- Dhamar: 9.6 mm
- Sana'a: 7.2 mm
- Sayoun: 0.5 mm
- Amran: 0.4 mm
- Sa'dah: 0.2 mm
Thunderstorms have also occurred in areas not covered by monitoring stations, including mountainous highlands, interior plateaus, and coastal regions.
The center has issued warnings to avoid crossing valleys and flood-prone areas due to potential flooding and hazardous conditions.
Citizens should be cautious of strong winds, hail, reduced visibility, and potential building collapses.
Additionally, rockfalls and landslides are a risk on slopes and mountain roads due to ongoing rainfall.
