NEW DELHI August 29. 2024 (Saba) - At least 28 people have been killed in heavy monsoon rains and floods in the Indian state of Gujarat over the past three days.

According to Indian media reports on Thursday, the Indian Meteorological Department warned of more heavy rains today in the western coastal state.

Authorities evacuated more than 30,000 people after several rivers overflowed.

The state government reported last night that 13 people drowned and others were killed by houses or trees collapsing on them.

Disaster rescue teams rescued 1,856 people while army officials were deployed for relief operations. The electricity grid was severely affected, and electricity was cut off to nearly 1,000 villages. Rescuers used rubber boats and tires to rescue people trapped by the water, according to photos and videos published by disaster management officials.
