Moscow says Middle East tensions stemming from America's quest to preserve its influence
[Wed, 28 Aug 2024 11:47:27 +0300]

MOSCOW August 28. 2024 (Saba) - Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has asserted that a primary cause of the current tensions in the Middle East is the United States' attempt to maintain its dominant influence in the region.

Russian news agencies reported Zakharova stating last night, "Washington's desire to monopolize the mediation role in the Palestinian-Zionist conflict, sustain the status quo, and promote 'economic peace,' while neglecting the fundamental issues needed for a long-term resolution to this enduring problem, is a significant factor."

She further criticized U.S. actions, noting that they have promoted a confrontational approach designed to create artificial divisions in the region and forge anti-Iranian alliances.

Zakharova emphasized that the deep-seated issues driving the current dangerous escalation in the Middle East are rooted in the unresolved Palestinian-Zionist conflict and the international community's failure to halt the severe bloodshed in the Gaza Strip.

She warned that this situation has led to a sharp decline in the military and political stability across the region, particularly at the Zionist-Lebanese border, the occupied Golan Heights, the Red Sea, and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Zakharova stressed that the Middle East is at a critical juncture, with uncontrolled escalation potentially leading to a major war.
