Water Corporation in Sana'a city implements two thousand 223 interventions to address flood damage

SANA'A August 27. 2024 (Saba) - The Local Water and Sanitation Corporation in Sana'a city has carried out 223 interventions to address the damage of floods flowing in various districts since late July.

The director of the local water corporation, Eng. Mohamed Mada'is told Saba that the emergency works and treatments carried out during the period from July 31 to August 25, included the maintenance and opening of more than thousand 64 blockages in the sewage network in several streets and neighborhoods due to dust and remnants of torrential rain.

He stated that the field technical teams of the Foundation and its areas in the directorates treated and repaired 43 asphalt subsidences, replaced and installed 45 broken and missing inspection manhole covers, carried out 23 rainwater suction works to save tunnels and lanes, suctioned 12 wells, and supported the efforts of the Capital Municipality by carrying out excavation and cleaning works for nine ferries to drain torrents.

Engineer Mada'is confirmed that the technical teams dealt with all the reports received by the operations successively. He pointed out that 16 field teams of workers and engineers and about 17 equipment and mechanisms participated in the implementation of emergency works and interventions to treat and open blockages in sewage networks, suction of rainwater, and replacement of manhole covers.

He pointed out that six sewage lines were washed away and collapsed due to the flow of torrential rains and torrential rains, as well as the flooding of 17 sewage lines that were filtered and maintained as part of the work to address flood damage in streets and neighborhoods.

According to the director of the Water Corporation, maintenance teams, and equipment repaired and built the retaining wall of the sewage transmission line on Airport Street, which collapsed as a result of the continued rain and torrential flow.

He praised the great efforts made by the cadres of the Foundation and its regions in the directorates, in implementing emergency works and repairs to the lines of sewage networks affected by torrential rains, which contributed to the continuation of services to citizens.

Mada'is pointed to the blockages and damage to the sewage network lines, as a result of the dust and solid waste washed away by the torrents, and the opening of some citizens to the covers of inspection manholes to drain water, which hinders the performance of the sewage network and the overflow of sewage to the streets and causes great health and environmental risks.

He touched on the Foundation's efforts to replace many collapsed, broken, and dilapidated sewage lines and carry out periodic maintenance work for the network, despite the great challenges faced by the Corporation due to the repercussions of the aggression and blockade.

Eng. Mada'is confirmed the continuation of emergency works and repairs carried out by the technical teams in the field to reduce the damage caused by the floods and maintain the sewage network.

He called on citizens not to open the covers of sewage inspection manholes in streets and neighborhoods during rains, to ensure that they do not become clogged and collapse, and that sewage returns to homes and streets and damages property.

He urged citizens to cooperate with the corporation and inform it of any open inspection room or blockage on the emergency number "171", to maintain water and sewage network lines and reduce health and environmental risks to the community.
