SEOUL August 07. 2024 (Saba) - South Korea last June recorded its largest current account surplus in nearly seven years, thanks to strong exports led by semiconductors.
The South Korean Yonhap News Agency quoted the South Korean Central Bank on Wednesday as saying that the country's current account surplus reached $12.2 billion in June, recording a surplus for the second consecutive month, the largest since September 2017 when the surplus reached $12.3 billion.
This performance was driven by a strong goods account that recorded a surplus of $11.4 billion, the largest since September 2020, and recorded growth for 15 consecutive months.
South Korea's exports rose 8.7 percent on-year to $58.8 billion in June, with semiconductor exports surging 50.4 percent.
Exports of telecommunications equipment and petroleum products also rose 26 percent and 8.5 percent, respectively, the data showed.
