NEW YORK August 01. 2024 (Saba) - The Financial Times reports that American and European diplomats are engaged in a frantic effort to prevent a broader regional conflict following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and a senior Hezbollah commander.

Enrique Mora, a senior EU diplomat, is reportedly in Tehran for critical talks. The assassination has complicated ceasefire negotiations and heightened the risk of further retaliatory attacks, according to U.S. officials and experts.

The Biden administration has urgently consulted with Israeli officials, Jordanian and Qatari counterparts, and other allies to de-escalate the situation.

The situation is described as extremely sensitive, with increasing fears that any retaliatory actions could trigger a regional war.
