Taiz – Saba:
Acting governor of Taiz Ahmed al-Masawa, accompanied by Assistant Commander of the Fourth Military Region Brigadier General Mohammed al-Khalid and Director General of Provincial Security Brigadier General Shukri Mehyoub, on Tuesday launched the "Less Plastic, Better Life" campaign.
The initiative operates under the slogan "Reducing Plastic Pollution, Because Together We Can Ensure a Better, Healthier Future."
The campaign, organized by the General Authority for Environment and Climate Change Office in collaboration with the Cleaning and Improvement Fund, will run for seven days across the governorate center and its districts. Its primary goal is to eliminate and reduce the dangerous effects of plastic waste on soil.
During the launch, the Acting Governor explained that the campaign is being executed through a specialized contractor who will collect the plastic waste and transport it to the capital Sana'a, for recycling. This approach aims to prevent the burning of plastic in landfills or public areas, marking a step towards creating green spaces within the governorate.
Al-Masawa urged public engagement with the campaign to foster a plastic-free environment and green spaces that contribute to natural restoration and alleviate the global warming crisis affecting the world.
For his part, Director General of the Environment Authority Office Abdo al-Bahr stated that the campaign is being implemented in conjunction with World Environment Day, as the world experiences the current heatwave and global warming, which pose a threat to the natural environment.
He called on citizens to cooperate with the field teams working in the directorates to eliminate these harmful materials, which will in turn reflect positively on daily life and the beauty of nature.
In turn, Director General of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund Talal al-Sufi noted that improvement teams will work with the General Authority for Environment to curb this phenomenon that detracts from the aesthetic appearance. He also urged citizens to cooperate with public cleaning teams.
