TEHRAN July 28. 2024 (Saba) - Iranian President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday, "We will work to ensure that Iran is always strong, has deterrent and defensive capabilities, and enjoys social justice and freedoms."
In a speech after receiving the inauguration decree from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran must attain the first place in the economic field and that its position in the Islamic world must be strengthened.
He stressed that Iran's relations are based on constructive dealings with the countries of the world, especially Islamic countries.
Pezeshkian added, "We will seek to strengthen Iran's position and international relations based on the principle of dignity, and we must work to serve the people with all our strength and power."
He pledged that he and his next government would adhere to the general frameworks of leadership with the aim of developing the country, emphasizing that the unity of the Iranian people and their leadership guarantees Iran's strength.
He continued, "I pledge before the Leader of the Revolution that we will not take any path other than the path of justice and fairness, and that we will continue the path of the martyrs who served this people."
Pezeshkian asked the Leader of the Islamic Revolution to support the National Accord Government in overcoming concerns and difficulties.
The new Iranian president also stressed that the support and satisfaction of the people are fundamental criteria for assuming responsibility in the country.
Earlier today, the ceremony of implementing and handing over the 14th mandate of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the official inauguration of the elected president, Masoud Pezeshkian, was held in Tehran, in the presence of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, and several officials.
The ceremony was attended by more than 2,500 Iranian officials, military personnel, university presidents, representatives of various unions, a group of martyrs' families, and ambassadors of foreign countries residing in Tehran, including the Syrian Ambassador Dr. Chafik Dioub.
For his part, Ayatollah Khamenei said in a speech during the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president: "The elections were held in the best possible way and within a good competitive atmosphere despite the sadness that spread throughout the country over the loss of the late President Ebrahim Raisi." He noted the role of Acting President Mohammad Mokhber in running the country.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that popular sovereignty in Iran is the result of the revolution and the people's uprising in the face of past hardships and calamities. He described President Pezeshkian's speech as "deep and indicative of his commitment to the principles of popular religious sovereignty, and we must all support him."
He added: "President Pezeshkian and his government will benefit from the people's energy to achieve the goals he expressed. The people elected a worthy president with a deep vision, and we wish his government success."
