LONDON July 24. 2024 (Saba) - Israeli enemy forces publish derogatory photos and videos of Palestinian prisoners, including children, "which constitutes inhuman treatment and an attack on their personal dignity, amounting to a war crime," Human Rights Watch said.
"In many cases, detainees (Palestinian prisoners) have been stripped naked, sometimes completely, and then photographs or videos have been taken and posted by Israeli soldiers, media or activists," the UN said in a report on Tuesday.
Belqees Jarrah, acting Middle East director at Human Rights Watch, noted that for months, Israeli authorities have ignored the publication by members of its military of derogatory photos and videos showing Palestinians in their custody naked or semi-naked.
"Senior officials and military commanders can be held criminally responsible for ordering, failing to prevent or punish these crimes, including through the ICC," Jarrah said.
Human Rights Watch noted that the enemy government "has not publicly condemned the treatment of Palestinian detainees depicted in the photographs, nor has the judicial authorities announced any prosecutions for these crimes."
It noted that the enemy forces have detained thousands of Palestinians from Gaza at the Sde Timan military base in southern occupied Palestine, since October 2023, "where they were subjected to ill-treatment and torture, and at least 36 died in detention."
"International law recognizes the inherent dignity of human beings caught up in conflict, regardless of which side they belong to. Victims have the right to justice and accountability."
