NEW YORK July 15. 2024 (Saba) -Gaza Strip has suffered unbelievable destruction following the Israeli offensive, a UN official said on Monday, noting that no building in Khan Younis escaped damages, and the city topography has changed.
Israel’s war in Gaza has created 37m tonnes of debris, much of it laced with unexploded bombs, which could take more than 15 years to remove, a top UN demining official told The Guardian.
Gaza needs US$ 600 million to remove the debris, and a daily removal using 100 trucks would take more than 15 years, the official added.
Over 173,297 (more than a half of) Gaza's buildings were damaged, he said, noting that most of the ruins would not be recyclable.
44 years of developments in Gaza were damaged, he added, as health, education and social care services in the Strip went back to their conditions in 1980.
