SANA'A July 11. 2024 (Saba) - Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Chairman of Iran's Islamic Shura Council, has asserted that eliminating the use of the dollar and adopting alternative currencies would significantly alleviate US pressures on emerging economies.

Speaking at the BRICS Parliamentary General Assembly in St. Petersburg, Russia, Ghalibaf highlighted the shortcomings of the current global order in resolving regional and international disputes, ending conflicts, and addressing inequality.

He emphasized the emergence of new collective economic and political energies within multilateral frameworks aimed at promoting global governance based on multipolarity.

Ghalibaf reaffirmed Iran's steadfast commitment to a multipolar world order, advocating for robust participation and cooperation among BRICS member states to achieve shared objectives.

He underscored the strategic complementarity of BRICS economies across various sectors, citing this as a catalyst for mutual development through bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

A key initiative discussed was the BRICS' move towards reducing reliance on the dollar in trade among its members, viewed as a strategic step to mitigate US influence and pressure on emerging economies.

Ghalibaf pointed to the recent financial agreement between Iran and Russia as a successful example of bilateral cooperation aimed at circumventing dollar dominance.

Highlighting transit, energy, trade, and banking as pivotal areas for BRICS cooperation, Ghalibaf expressed Iran's readiness to engage comprehensively with its BRICS partners.

He proposed establishing BRICS Parliamentary Friendship Groups within member states' parliaments to enhance bilateral parliamentary relations, advocating for joint action against economic sanctions and unilateral coercive measures that threaten member states' security and well-being.

Ghalibaf concluded by affirming Iran's parliament's commitment to fostering closer ties and effective cooperation with BRICS counterparts, aligning with their collective vision for a more balanced and equitable global economic and political order.
