DHAMAR July 06. 2024 (Saba) - The Counseling and Psychological Care Center at Dhamar University on Saturday organized a scientific awareness symposium on drug abuse and its effects on the individual and society, on the occasion of World Anti-Drug Day.
In the symposium, University President Mohammed al-Haifi stressed the importance of spreading awareness of the dangers of drugs and confronting the spread of this phenomenon, which poses a danger to society.
Al-Haifi pointed out that the promotion and abuse of drugs represents one of the most prominent issues that threaten society, especially in light of the efforts of the aggression countries to facilitate their entry to undermine and corrupt society.
While the Vice rector of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research - Director of the Center for Counseling and Psychological Care at the University Abdulkarim Zabiba reviewed in a scientific paper on “Psychiatry and Types of Drugs,” the problems of the use of addictive substances in all countries of the world and the dangers of growing addiction.
Zabiba pointed to the importance of raising awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and the criminal methods used to smuggle and market drugs, pointing to the methods and means of diagnosing drug addiction or other addictive substances through comprehensive evaluation by a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist through laboratory tests.
He stressed the role of various parties in spreading awareness of the dangers of drugs because of their devastating effects on the individual, society and the country in general.
In turn, Abdo Farhan al-Hemyari, Head of the Psychology Department at the College of Arts - Head of the Autism Spectrum Disorder Unit at the Counseling and Psychological Care Centre, touched on the dangers of electronic cigarettes and the health and psychological effects they cause.
Al-Hemyari stated that electronic cigarette products contain varying amounts of nicotine, harmful emissions and other toxic substances that pose a danger to smokers and those exposed to passive smoking.
He pointed out that the effects of nicotine and other resources contained in electronic cigarettes cause great harm to health and result in many diseases such as cancer, heart and lung disorders, and others.
