TEHRAN July 05. 2024 (Saba) - Polling stations opened on Friday morning in the second round of the 14th Iranian presidential elections putting the candidate Masoud Pezeshkian against Saeed Jalili.
According to the Iranian Tasnim Agency, Iranian Interior Minister Ahmed Vahidi announced this morning, in a press conference, the start of the second round of the presidential elections.
The Iranian Interior Minister said that voting in the elections is taking place in more than 56,000 electoral districts.
In these elections, to assume the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran's 14th president, two candidates, Masoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili, are competing.
According to Article 36 of the Presidential Elections Law, all persons who hold Iranian citizenship and are at least 18 years old can participate in the aforementioned elections by presenting their citizenship or national card.
The first round took place last Friday between the four candidates; Saeed Jalili, Masoud Pezeshkian, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf, and Mustafa Pourmohammadi. No candidate was able to obtain an absolute majority, so the elections went to a second round between the two candidates who won the largest number of votes: Pezeshkian (10 million, 415 thousand and 991 votes) and Jalili (9 million 473 thousand votes and 298 votes)
