New York June 28. 2024 (Saba) - The President of the United Nations General Assembly, at its seventy-eighth session in Friday, called for an end to the war in Gaza, as "the situation cannot be tolerated any longer, and many civilians have lost their lives in the Strip, most of them women and children."
In media statements, Dennis Francis stressed the need to provide support to the Palestinians in Gaza to rebuild their livelihoods and reach a ceasefire.
Francis recalled that the United Nations General Assembly was the body that adopted the first strong and decisive resolution on Gaza in October 2023, noting that the resolution called for a complete, but not a temporary ceasefire.
Francis noted that the Security Council's failure to deal with the crisis should not be considered a failure of the United Nations as a whole. Adding that the situation is very difficult for the United Nations, which he described as a "symbol of peace."
The Zionist enemy continues its genocidal war in Gaza Strip, amid indifference to UN resolutions and human rights calls demanding an immediate halt to the aggression, and a halt to committing further war crimes against civilians in Gaza Strip, including women and children.
