MOSCOW June 24. 2024 (Saba) - The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned US Ambassador Lynn Tracy to its headquarters in Moscow on Monday and formally lodged a protest with her regarding the recent attack on Sevastopol in the Crimean Peninsula.
In a statement reported by the Russian news agency TASS, the Foreign Ministry stated that Ambassador Lynn Tracy was called to the Russian Foreign Ministry headquarters in response to what they described as a new violent act committed by the Kiev regime, which they claim is backed by Washington.
The statement condemned the deliberate missile attack on civilian populations in Sevastopol, resulting in numerous casualties, including children.
The statement further asserted that the United States, actively engaged in what Russia terms a hybrid war against it, shares responsibility with the Kiev regime for these tragic events.
The Russian Ministry of Defense accused Ukraine of launching a missile strike using "Atakms" equipped with cluster warheads on civilian infrastructure in Sevastopol. They reported that four Atakms were intercepted by air defenses, while another missile veered off course and exploded within the city limits.
Additionally, Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian President, confirmed that US involvement in military actions resulting in the deaths of Russian civilians would not go unanswered.
In response to the attack, Governor Sergei Aksyonov of the Crimean Peninsula declared Monday as a day of mourning due to the tragic events in Sevastopol.
It should be noted that Sevastopol is one of the cities in the disputed Crimean Peninsula, which is contested territory between Russia and Ukraine, situated on the shores of the Black Sea.
