AMMAN June 11. 2024 (Saba) - Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has emphasized the urgent need to halt the conflict in Gaza and ensure the delivery of vital humanitarian aid to its beleaguered population.
She highlighted Australia's active involvement in international endeavors aimed at ending the hostilities and providing much-needed relief to those in dire need.
In press statements released by the Australian Embassy in Amman, Wong underscored Australia's participation in the ongoing Gaza Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference hosted by Jordan as part of these global efforts.
Representing Australia at the conference, Minister for Early Childhood Education and Minister for Youth, Dr. Anne Ali, reiterated the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where over a million Palestinians are grappling with severe food insecurity, and 1.7 million have been displaced multiple times. She stressed the pressing need for improved humanitarian access to the region.
Minister Ali affirmed Australia's unwavering support for diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving the conflict and addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Australia has been vocal in calling for immediate humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian population in Gaza. Additionally, Australia has insisted on the Zionist entity's compliance with the binding directives of the International Court of Justice, including the provision of essential services and widespread humanitarian aid.
