Washington - Saba:
The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the Ukrainian delegation intends to discuss the 30-day ceasefire only with the Russian side in Istanbul.
The newspaper said on Thursday that "the Ukrainian delegation will meet with its Russian counterpart only to discuss how to implement and monitor the 30-day ceasefire without preconditions."
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky said that "the Ukrainian delegation in the talks in Istanbul intends to discuss the ceasefire with the Russian side," explaining that "the Ukrainian delegation in the negotiations in Istanbul is scheduled to be headed by Defense Minister Rustam Amirov."
Rodion Miroshnyk, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador for Special Assignments, confirmed that the Ukrainian delegation's insistence on discussing only the ceasefire in the negotiations contradicts Moscow's broader approach.
He added, "Some Western media outlets, citing their sources, reported that Ukraine is heading there to discuss a ceasefire for only 30 days. These positions actually contradict the approach currently adopted by Russia."
It is worth noting that the Russian delegation had previously arrived in Istanbul, but negotiations did not begin due to the Ukrainian delegation's failure to arrive.
Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Russian delegation to the Istanbul negotiations, made an important statement to the media ahead of the negotiations on Ukraine, explaining that the delegation views the negotiations as a continuation of the peace process that stalled with the Kyiv authorities in 2022.
