NEW YORK June 11. 2024 (Saba) - The UN Security Council adopted a US-drafted resolution calling for ceasefire in Gaza Strip.

While Russia was reluctant to vote, the resolution was approved by 14 member states.

In its final wording, the resolution welcomes the truce proposed by the US president, Joe Biden.

Already accepted by Israel, the current draft calls on Hamas to accept and all the parties to apply all its terms unconditionally.

The resolution stipulates for 6-week ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal from populated areas in Gaza, and release of Palestinian prisoners and Israeli detainees.
