BERLIN June 10. 2024 (Saba) - The German government announced on Monday that Berlin is not considering the possibility of early parliamentary elections in light of the disastrous results of the ruling coalition in the European Parliament elections.
According to Russia Today, government spokesman Steffen Gebestraet said at a press conference “We have not previously thought for one second about the possibility of early elections in Germany or anything of that kind.”
Gebestraet added “The new elections are expected to take place in the fall of next year.”
Commenting on French President Emmanuel Macron's decision to dissolve the lower chamber of the French parliament, he noted that there are significant differences in the two countries' political systems.
Germany's ruling coalition parties suffered heavy losses in last week's European Parliament elections in EU countries, receiving less than a third of the vote.
Meanwhile, the right-wing Alternative for Germany party overtook Chancellor Olaf Schulz's Social Democratic Party, recording its best result in history at the federal level. The far-right party also came second in the national elections, for the first time in German history.
