SANA'A May 08. 2024 (Saba) - The Minister of Justice of the caretaker government, Judge Nabil Al-Azzani, met on Wednesday with the Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Programmes in Yemen, Nadia Al-Awamleh.
The meeting, which was attended by the head of the technical office, Judge Khaled Al-Baghdadi, discussed the support that the program can provide to the judiciary to increase access to justice services for women, and to provide legal services to vulnerable groups, especially with regard to providing judicial aid to women in a number of governorates with urgent need.
The meeting reviewed the possibility of providing the necessary support from the program to meet the emergency needs of the Ministry in a number of areas related to technical support, developing the capacities of justice institutions to become responsive to the needs of women, and providing empowerment and economic protection projects for them, former detainees and survivors of cases of violence.
In the meeting, Judge Al-Azzani stressed the importance of the pivotal role of the Ministry of Justice as a link between the executive and judicial authorities in providing justice services to citizens and facilitating the desired justice procedures for litigants.
He pointed to the importance of supporting the judiciary in the field of providing judicial aid with a view to raising the capacities and skills of judges and legal aid providers in judicial institutions to play their role in providing legal and guidance services to vulnerable groups in society.
He praised the role of the United Nations Development Program in supporting some projects during the past period. He expressed the hope that future cooperation will be expanded among the priorities of the judiciary.
For her part, the Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) affirmed the program's readiness to provide possible support to the projects of the judiciary related to the areas of the program according to the available capabilities.
