17 fishermen return to Al-Khokha after weeks of detention in Eritrean prisons

HODEIDA May 04. 2024 (Saba) - 17 fishermen from Al-Mukha returned to the beaches of Al-Khokha in Hodeida province, after weeks of being detained in Eritrean prisons.

An official in the Ministry of Fisheries Resources explained to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that the fishermen arrived on board a jalaba to the beaches of Al-Khokhah, amid a reception from their families and colleagues.

He pointed out that the fishermen spent weeks in Eritrean Termah prisons in extremely poor detention conditions, where they were subjected to serious violations by the Eritrean authorities, who reneged on their previous pledges to release 45 fishermen, reducing the number to only 17.

The official pointed out that fishermen in the western coastal areas of Yemen are subjected to repeated violations by the Eritrean Navy, which confiscates their boats , the catch they own, and detains them for long periods without justification, calling for an end to the Eritrean Navy’s violations against Yemeni fishermen.
