GAZA April 28. 2024 (Saba) - Hamas has warned against any international body supervising the work of UNRWA as an alternative to the United Nations.
Hamas called on all international parties that refrained from supporting UNRWA to stand up to its responsibilities towards the genocidal war against the Palestinian people.
It said "We followed with interest and concern the report issued by the committee assigned by Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres headed by former French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna to review the neutrality of UNRWA, in which it refuted the occupation’s allegations through which it attempted to distort the work of the international agency.
Hamas stopped at a set of warnings and risks - which were included in the 54-page report - and aims to work to empty the work of UNRWA and form international bodies alternative to the United Nations in following up and supervising it, in an attempt to target its political dimension, and in the context of malicious plans that target Ending her work as a political witness to the Palestinian Nakba.
It pointed out there was a call for the establishment of an international body to supervise the work of UNRWA from outside, which in itself constitutes political targeting par excellence, paving the way for taking away the responsibility of the United Nations General Assembly. It also replaces the UNRWA Advisory Committee, which is made up of 28 countries and three observer members.
Hamas indicated that a report calls for the removal of responsibility from the employee unions operating within the scope of UNRWA operations in the five regions, claiming that they are politicized, which is a serious accusation that entails great risks in terms of trying to undermine the relationship between employees and management, deepening the differences between them, and blatant interference in the work of the international institution that is supposed to The report calls for her impartiality and non-interference in her work affairs.
It saw that the report's call for partnership with other institutions with UNRWA is another attempt to empty and obscure its work, especially with the practical replacement of its relief services in the sector, without strengthening the role of UNRWA, which led to the weakening of its provided services.
Hamas was surprised that while the report called for the neutrality of UNRWA facilities, it did not mention - near or far - the occupation targeting 160 of its headquarters, and the martyrdom of 180 of its employees, and it was not at all subjected to field executions or the horrific targeting of displaced persons in its schools, and no evidence of that was a massacre. Al-Fakhoura in Jabalia, which was repeated in several massacres committed by the occupation at different stages of its aggression.
