Warnings about establishing sea corridor under American supervision off Gaza
Warnings about establishing sea corridor under American supervision off Gaza
Warnings about establishing sea corridor under American supervision off Gaza
[11/March/2024]

SANA'A March 11. 2024 (Saba) -The United States of America presented plans to establish a floating sea corridor off the shores of Gaza aimed at transporting food and other aid to civilians in the Strip, while Washington supports the Zionist enemy militarily, politically, and financially, which clearly and directly reveals the aggression against Gaza.

This surprising step comes at a time when the Biden administration is increasingly facing major criticism after the worsening humanitarian crisis and the tightening of the Zionist siege on Gaza.

The American announcement of the establishment of a port on the Gaza coast linked to a waterway to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip raised fears of exploiting the tragedy experienced by the residents of the Gaza Strip to achieve a “displacement plan.”

The UN Special Rapporteur on food, Michael Fakhri, denounced the American proposal, considering it “malicious,” as the United States at the same time providing bombs, ammunition, and financial support to the Zionist enemy entity (Israel).

He said during a press conference in Geneva, "For the first time I hear someone saying that we need to use a sea pier... No one asked for a sea pier, neither the Palestinian people nor the humanitarian community."

While the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas did not comment on the “American Port” and the “Cyprus Corridor” for the entry of aid, voices emerged in the Palestinian Authority that feared that the Gaza Port would be exploited to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement: the Zionist enemy’s focus on giving approvals to open sea lanes and preventing the passage of aid overland through the crossings aimed at implementing the Zionist enemy government’s plan to perpetuate the occupation and separation between the West Bank and Gaza Strip and displace the Palestinian people.

It had previously confirmed that the corridor entails risks targeting the demographic situation in the Gaza Strip, in light of the killings and starvation.

US President Joe Biden had announced that he would direct the US Army to lead an emergency mission to establish a temporary naval pier in the Mediterranean Sea on the coast of Gaza, pointing out that the temporary pier on the Gaza coast able to receive large ships carrying food, water, medicine, and temporary shelters.

In turn, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides said: the Cyprus sea corridor aims to accelerate the transfer of aid to the Gaza Strip and relieve pressure on land routes.

He added: his country aims to make the sea corridor sustainable and a major contributor to alleviating the suffering of civilians in Gaza.

Amid warnings of the danger of famine, five months after the Zionist aggression on Gaza, the US military airdropped food meals into Gaza.

In the same context, Democratic Representative Pramila Jaipal asked on Saturday about the significance of airdropping American aid into the Gaza Strip while America is Israel’s largest military financier?

She said in an interview with the American network "CNN": "There must be a shift in American policy soon to take advantage of the influence of its funding for "Israel" to immediately bring aid into Gaza."

Representative Jaipal reiterated the necessity of a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of prisoners, and the entry of aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip.

An American draft law provides for providing an additional $17.6 billion in new military aid to the Zionist enemy (Israel) at a time when it continues its aggression against the Gaza Strip since the seventh of last October.

The government media office in Gaza said in a statement: “Random airdrops of humanitarian aid caused the death of five Palestinians and several injuries when they fell on the heads of citizens as a result of the wrong landing.”

The office added: “Airdrop operations are ineffective, and not the ideal way to bring aid in.” Pointing out that part of this aid is located at sea, while another part located near the separation fence or areas controlled by the Israeli army, or inside the Palestinian territories. .

It continued, saying: “We repeat what we mentioned previously that aid landing operations in this manner take on a showy and propaganda character rather than a humanitarian and service character.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that work on the sea aid corridor to Gaza could begin by the end of the week, A trial shipment will leave Cyprus on Friday.

Several Arab and Western countries supported US President Joe Biden's decision to activate a sea corridor to deliver aid to the besieged Gaza Strip.

The European Commission President's announcement comes after the United States said it would establish a temporary port in Gaza, and the United Nations stated that a quarter of Gaza's population on the brink of famine and that children are starving to death.

This comes after the Cairo talks reached a dead end, and the Hamas movement delegation left the Egyptian capital, after consultations on a ceasefire in Gaza mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the United States.

An estimated 300,000 Palestinians live in northern Gaza with little food and clean water.

Cyprus had previously announced the establishment of the "Amalthea" initiative, to determine a mechanism to safely ship aid from Cyprus to Gaza via sea, and it will be part of enabling the joint effort to launch a sea corridor.

Since 1967, the Zionist enemy entity has exercised complete control over the Gaza coast and its territorial waters, preventing ships from reaching the Strip.

Also, since 2007, the usurping enemy entity has closed almost all border crossings in Gaza, and its port has been subjected to an Israeli naval blockade, making it the only sea port in the Mediterranean closed to shipping.
