SANA'A March 09. 2024 (Saba) - The caretaker Prime Minister received on Saturday the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security Gilles Michaud, and his accompanying delegation, who is currently visiting Yemen.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Bin Habtoor welcomed the UN official and his accompanying delegation on their visit to Yemen.

He reviewed the multiple effects of the continued state of aggression and blockade on Yemen, especially on the economic and living aspect on various segments of Yemeni society.

The caretaker Prime Minister reiterated that Sana'a was and will continue to be for a just and honorable peace that preserves Yemen's security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He pointed to the need to increase humanitarian support for the Yemeni people and not to involve the humanitarian file in the political bargaining processes. He stressed the government's keenness to support the United Nations Office and various UN and international organizations working in the humanitarian field, facilitate their work and address any problem they face.

Dr. Bin Habtoor expressed his thanks and appreciation for the humanitarian role played by the humanitarian system in Yemen to alleviate the tragic situation on the Yemeni people caused and still caused by the US-Saudi-UAE aggression and blockade.

The meeting, which was attended by Assistant Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers for Foreign Relations Yahya Al-Hadi, discussed ways to enhance and develop cooperation between Yemen and the United Nations, especially in the humanitarian fields, in order to serve joint efforts in this aspect, which affects the overwhelming majority of the Yemeni people.

The meeting touched on the security situation that the world is going through, especially the situation in the Gaza Strip in light of the extermination, systematic starvation and daily massacres of the residents of the Gaza Strip by the Zionist enemy in full view of the world, and the repercussions of this on regional and international peace and security.

He also touched on the legal and moral responsibility of the United Nations and the Security Council to stop the Zionist aggression and the entry of food and medicine to the people of Gaza.

Dr. Bin Habtoor pointed out that Yemen is today doing its duty to support the oppressed in Gaza based on the religious, moral and humanitarian duty by various means and available capabilities. He pointed out that Sana'a will continue its military operations in support of Gaza until the aggression is stopped and adequate food and medicine are brought in to its people.

For his part, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Safety and Security Affairs stressed that the United Nations is working to address the situation in Gaza urgently and ensure that the war does not spread and move to a level where it is difficult to control its course.

He pointed out that the Secretary-General of the United Nations and all its institutions will not retreat from peace efforts in Gaza and other conflict areas in the world.

The UN official pointed to the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the concerned government agencies in Yemen and the United Nations Office and working according to joint mechanisms that help prepare and submit reports on the humanitarian situation in Yemen and its variables and determine the volume of support according to priorities in this field.

He also stressed the respect of the United Nations and its staff for the religious and societal values and norms of the Yemeni people and not to prejudice them. He noted the responsibility of all in alleviating the suffering of Yemenis and providing their basic needs.
