Speaker of Parliament Yahya al-Ra'i on Saturday met with Minister of Health and Environment Dr. Ali Shiban, alongside ministry undersecretary Dr. Mohammed al-Mansour and Chairman of the Supreme Authority for Medicines and Medical Supplies Dr. Ali Abbas, to discuss the nation's health sector.
The meeting, attended by deputy speaker Abdulrahman al-Jumai and several parliament members, focused on the Ministry's ongoing efforts in epidemiological surveillance and its measures to combat and limit the spread of diseases and epidemics.
Discussions also covered the Ministry's role in public health awareness and education campaigns conducted through various media channels.
Minister Shiban and his team provided updates on initiatives aimed at enhancing medical and treatment services for citizens, including the provision of emergency services in the capital Sana'a and other governorates.
Speaker al-Ra'i underscored the critical need for collaborative efforts to modernize the health system, ensuring comprehensive healthcare access for all citizens and addressing existing deficiencies.
He stressed the importance of establishing an integrated system for health emergency response, particularly in light of the country's challenging circumstances and the impacts of ongoing aggression and blockade.
Al-Ra'i emphasized studying the root causes of disease and epidemic spread to develop effective solutions and preventative measures.
He affirmed Parliament's unwavering support for the Ministry of Health's continued efforts to develop health and treatment services.
The Speaker also highlighted the crucial need to verify the safety, validity, country of origin, and health specifications of all vaccines provided to Yemen.
He urged adherence to parliamentary recommendations concerning health awareness, epidemic control, and periodic vaccine testing.
In concluding the meeting, Speaker al-Ra'i lauded the Ministry of Health and Environment's dedicated efforts in delivering health services to the populace.
Minister Shiban, in turn, expressed gratitude to the Speaker and Parliament members for their continuous oversight and commitment to legislative development, including the approval of the draft law on medicines and pharmacies, which aims to facilitate essential health services.
